Learning various aspects of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system can help to refine your understanding of the history and tradition of yoga. The 3 places of focus or attention are called Trishdana. They are Breath - Pranayama, Posture - Asana and Gaze - Drishti. Each class will give attention to the Trishdana to develop qualities of concentration and calm.
Class 1 (July 28): A lecture on the history and roots of yoga and how Ashtanga continues the Yoga tradition. Also a breakdown of the standing postures, flow and connection with the breath as a tool for more fluid transitions. Followed by Pranayama and meditation.
Class 2 (July 29): Connecting with the energetics of the practice and postures. How do the Chakras and Vayus(Airs or Prana) flow in the series and individual postures. A focus on the seated and closing postures. Modifications will be given where needed. Followed by Meditation.
Class 3 (August 4): Exploring the second half of Primary Series. Learning how to flow from posture to posture and modify if needed. Followed by meditation.
Class 4 (August 5): Putting it all together. Practice the full Primary series without interruptions. Just the count and the breath and the posture. This is how it is taught in the traditions of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Rangaswami. Followed by Pranayama and Meditation
